Whenever I relive my Croatia trip to friends, the first place I think of is the stunningly beautiful Krka National Park, located along the Krka River in near Zadar, Croatia. You may have seen the thousands of Instagram photos of its crystal clear waterfalls, river and pools, but no photo can capture the mesmerizing power of those falls in person!
The park originally opened to serve science, culture, and educational purposes because of its innumerable natural resources, but now its become one of the most alluring attractions in Croatia.
One of the most famous sights in the park is Skradinski Buk, which is a collection of 17 waterfalls. Some of the pools are even swimmable. Unfortunately, with no swimsuit in tow, I didn’t get to jump in that day, but there was nothing more amazing than seeing people swimming in the pristinely clear waters surrounded by what looked like staircases of waterfalls! Other centerpieces of the park include the small island of Visovac and Roski Slap waterfall which are equally stunning.
The trail from the entrance of the park goes around the waterfalls, through the luscious woods and along streams where alarmingly blue dragonflies play. The trail leads to a little cafe to stop and refuel. If the rocky trail and hike is too much, then you can enjoy the sights by taking a boat trip through the upper lakes of the park.
I’m definitely going to have to go back to swim in those falls one day to alieve my regret! There is so much to do, see and taste in Croatia that it’s quickly going from “undiscovered” coastline to the hottest vacation destination, and you’ll know why when you add the natural beauty of Krka National Park to your travel itinerary. It will blow your mind!
