I may not be a food critic, but I would definitely give myself a PHD in being a “Foodie” after going to “Smorgasburg” in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, New York. It welcomes foodies of all kinds every Sunday (or Saturday depending on location) from 10am to 4pm from of April- November. It is the largest weekly open-air food market in America, and has 4 locations in New York and one location Los Angeles, Ca., which is open year round. Each location has 100 local vendors each with there own unique and creative food.
On an especially hot day last June, my friends and I beelined to Johns Juice, which sells various fruit juices served in a convenient, perfectly edible fruit “cup”. A pineapple. We then split up to chase down our individual cravings and all met back up in the middle of the market at one of the many picnic tables to feast!
TIP: It gets crowded and the picnic tables get crowded, so elect a “table sitter” to watch the table as you go to get food and when you come back switch places. This is much easier than trying to find a table after buying all your food and trying to carry it around. Trust me!
We all then continued to stuff ourselves silly with delectable food like chicken tenders in waffle cones, ice cream banana pudding, (my mouth is watering just writing this) grilled cheese, and a giant corn on the cob covered in truffle mayonnaise. When we left, we waddled back to the subway in food induced comas. Totally worth it!!! I would go back in a heartbeat! Perfect spot for a date, or with a special someone to show off your feasting abilities.
Can’t wait til everything is safe and virus lockdowns are lifted, this will be the first spot I hit!
